Biography & Skills
Born and adopted in Western Massachusetts, I grew up a “corporate brat” moving every year or two from the Northeast into the South with a stint in Europe as a teenager. We moved to Virginia where I graduated high school and then I attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where I received a BA in Studio Art, focused on work in graphite, pen & ink and printmaking.

Some people might think that type of life is strange, but I didn’t know any different. It made me independent, able to entertain myself and my younger brother and open to new ideas, places and people. I found that everywhere we lived, the same personality types were there and some of the same issues were present, so it felt familiar somehow; it taught me to react to the situation and to respond honestly to each person.

My brother and I grew up fast, we knew how we were expected to act in most situations and felt comfortable interacting with adults. Our education was phenomenal: eating in famous restaurants, attending the opera at La Scala, meeting important people, art galleries, wonders of the world, learning new languages and being exposed to thousands of new things.

All the things I loved doing growing up have given me the skills I feel make me successful at my career. As any young girl, I loved to read books about horses, animals, biographies about important women and Nancy Drew mysteries (although not at night!) I started piano lessons at the age of 6 and continued until I graduated high school. I was able to study with a concert pianist when we lived in Italy, although I wasted my time with him while being a rebellious teenager – I did learn a lot from him and I still have my notes. I also loved doing word games, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles (and still have most of my collection from age 10), coloring, making crafts, creating roads and city structures for my brother’s trucks, making doll clothes, listening to music, board games, writing poetry, drawing, etc.

What skills did I gain from that very special childhood? I am focused and can concentrate on getting the job done from beginning to end. I am organized and can see through the superfluous to reach the important facts. I am creative and know how to problem-solve in the most efficient manner. Although I am independent and like being alone, that doesn’t mean I’m ineffective with people. I have great communication skills, am personable and engaging. I love to write, can speak comfortably in front of an audience or direct a tightly timed meeting.

The various jobs I’ve had throughout my career have also given me other skills: retail sales, computer efficiency, customer service, receptionist, gallery director, arts administrator, grant officer, festival coordinator, box office/concessions supervisor, party planner, bartender, facility manager, decorator, graphic director, photo stylist, etc. I think I am a well-rounded person, adaptable to most things thrown my way, have good judgment and can make informed decisions. My connections in the community are strong and loyal and I continue to enjoy their support.

If you need a formal resume, references or samples of my work, please feel free to ask. I will be happy to supply them.
